What’s getting in the way of updating your website/blog?

Update your website on a regular basis and keep Google interested ! Getting visitors to your site is becoming more difficult so its important you keep your website up to date.

Of all the websites on the Internet its probably true to say that 80% of them are never or rarely updated. Does this matter ? Well yes it does.

Google and other search engines like fresh content. The more you update your website the more often search engines will spider it and index the new content. It is common to see regularly updated websites being indexed by Google once or twice a day, whilst sites left unchanged for months on end may only get indexed on a monthly basis. There is also evidence that rarely updated sites slowly drop down the search engine listings.

So back to the question
What’s Getting In The Way of Updating Your Website / Blog ?

Usually its the time involved in doing this. Adding new content to websites is a time consuming task but as a minimum a website should have a news section which is updated once a week. A better option if you have the resources is to add a blog to your site.

If you’re unable to update your website or perhaps don’t have the time help is at hand. Leave it to the professionals who can update your website with related news items or articles on a regular basis or add a facility allowing you to update your own site.

I would also make the point that if you are not seeing much business stem from your website it’s tempting to think that it’s not worth the effort of updating it. But no fresh content will only help to reduce the ranking and so reduce the likelihood of it generating business and so on…
I would liken it to a shop window, if the display remains the same month after month it will attract a few cobwebs but not much else.
When your thinking of creating a website I think it’s important to think about how and when you will get this new content onto the site, a content management solution may be the most flexible. Also vital is an overall Internet marketing strategy, there are Internet Marketing Advisors who can help with this.
