Build a better business in Barnsley, build a better business community in Barnsley, be part of it.

Several years ago a group of Barnsley entrepreneurs created their own support forum to ‘bring-out’ what they needed to learn to master building a better business, this forum has been providing real solutions and facilitating learning for and with each other ever since.

At 9am on Wednesday 9th November 2011 this dynamic set of individuals open the doors at Willow Lodge corporate Retreat in Penistone for other local entrepreneurs to share in the benefits and success of what they’ve created.

There’s a few places available, please book early to avoid disappointment.
We call it ‘Pearls of Wisdom’ (Penistone Entrepreneurs Action Learning Set) but you don’t have to live or work in Penistone to join in.

It’s a seriously enjoyable way to develop. Action learning is a powerful way for leaders to learn from other leaders. This is a simple, yet powerful tool for personal & professional development.

Pearls of Wisdom offers a structured networking opportunity with a small group of people that gives you the environment to ask questions, seek answers, gain support and expect challenge.

Action learning is a process where people become mentors to each other; learning with and through each other.

Our group provides the chance to learn from, and be supported by a skilled facilitator, and the opportunity to work on real issues and implement solutions.

Held bi-monthly at Willow Lodge on Halifax Road, Penistone, nr Barnsley S36 7EY.

Price: £10 per person and invoiced in March (all profits are donated to a local community/enterprise project on an annual basis)

To validate that we’re (as a group) not a ‘talking shop’ I asked people at the end of our two hour session to reflect on the wide and deep discussion thread (risk taking & decision making in context of business growth), and asked them to let me know what ‘shifts’ the content of the session created.

The very next morning I received emails, not citing specific action plans, but confirming how getting together in a group really adds value to their development, the structured time in itself is important to step back to work on the business, especially as all of these people are highly skilled practitioners.

One person said “it’s not so much the factual information and solutions that appear out of no-where, but the state of mind the sessions create”, he added “as an accountant [for the firm] it is all too easy to fall into the basic numbers, but the sessions help give a wider perspective to issues which is sometimes lacking in my thinking”.

A testament to the: facilitation, the environment and the trust & openness of the group.

A couple of notes indicate ‘enjoyment’ of the sessions: “I really enjoy our group and long may it continue, I think it works well, and the foot-fall dictates its success”, another said “I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the session, I found it really worthwhile”. I wouldn’t go all out to say that business thinking is always fun, especially if you’re not an analyst, however enjoyment is a different matter, this fosters engagement, energy, motivation, momentum and most importantly the state of ‘Flow’.

A first timer to the group said “It’s great to be able to tap into the years of business experience around the table; I look forward to some useful advice for my young business in the future”.

If you’re interested in joining us next time on Tuesday 10th January at 9am at Willow Lodge on Halifax Road, Penistone, nr Barnsley S36 7EY, please drop me a line.
